Week 10 Lesson – Review

December10

This lesson provided a review the whole Birdwatching with Biblical Binoculars program.

We chose some highlights which we could present  in a short segment in church next week and decided to give our presentation in the form of a quiz for the congreagtion with the students as the quizmasters.

We talked about global communication and evangelism using Twitter, Facebook etc and we talked about Twitter Birds.
One of the students located my adapted Twitter bird pictures.

In previous weeks the Birdwatching with Biblical Binoculars has taken the form of looking up the Bible references given and working out the meaning and application of the text.
This week we went one step further – there were no Biblical references specifically to Twitter Birds – so the students had to work out the topics that were applicable and then look for appropriate texts.
In my mind the connection was going to be communicating and spreading the Gospel: however as we were discussing the attributes of Twitter Birds the theme of Following emerged and the students started to look for references to Following Jesus

During the worship service before the children came out for Church School Tracy Greene had shared It’s Friday but Sunday is coming
http://www.tonycampolo.org/media_archive.php
When Riley found Matt. 27:55 when looking up Follow Jesus it was not immediately apparent what the context of the verse was until I drew it out with questions. When they discovered that the context was that of Good Friday they all chorused “That was Friday! But Sunday is coming!”

Week 10 Lesson – Twitter Birds

December4

Talk about our week and pray for any concerns

Review the whole Birdwatching with Biblical Binoculars program and choose some highlights

Talk about how we could present them in a short segment in church next week.

Week 9 Lesson – Review

November26

When asked what the students thought of when owls were mentioned they answered that they thought owls were wise were nocturnal and were birds of prey.
When I asked why they thought people regarded owls as wise they said it was because they are often grey so they look like a wise experienced old person with grey or white hair and that some owls have feather patterns that make them look as if they are wearing spectacles which makes them look wise and as if they would read a lot.
We decided after using the Biblical Binoculars that owls are not associated with wisdom in the Bible.

Jordan and Ethan made origami owls while Riley worked on the clay animation.

Then Jordan created a Voki.

Week 9 Lesson – The Owl

October22
•Talk  to the children about their week and pray about any concerns.
•Discuss:  What  characteristics do you associate with owls?

•Use the Biblical Binoculars to locate mentions of Owls in the Bible
•Discuss: Why do you think owls are used to represent  learning and wisdom?
Discuss Biblical definitions of wisdom
•Wisdom in the Bible
•In the Bible, Solomon asks God for wisdom in 2 Chronicles 1.
Much of the Book of Proverbs, a book of wise sayings, is attributed to Solomon.
In Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10, the fear of the Lord is called the beginning or foundation of wisdom while Proverbs 8:13 declares “To fear the Lord is to hate evil”.
In Proverbs 8:22-31,  wisdom is described as being present with God before creation began and even taking part in creation itself, delighting especially in human beings.
•The word wisdom is mentioned 222 times in the Old Testament and New Testament of the Bible .
Both the books of Proverbs and Psalms urge readers to obtain and to increase in wisdom.
•Better to own than gold or silver (Proverbs 16:16).
•Giver of patience and glory (Proverbs 19:11).

Work on blog posts, Voki, Toondoo, stop motion models or clay eagle.

We watched the videos of eagles in flight and completed the Bird Watching with Biblical Binoculars exercise.
A large Butcher bird came and sat on the fence just outside the window and sang beautifully but flew away before we could take a photo!
